at 40NM NE KENORA ON (CYQK)
A WestJet Boeing 737-8CT (C-FUSM/WJA656) from Calgary, AB (CYYC) to Toronto/Lester B. Pearson, ON (CYYZ) reported that the first officer was in medical distress and advised diverting to Winnipeg/James Armstrong Richardson, MB (CYWG). They requested that an ambulance meet the flight at the gate.
UPDATE: TSB Report #A21C0120: C-FUSM, a Boeing B737-800 operated by WestJet, was conducting flight WJA656 from Calgary Intl. (CYYC), AB to Toronto/Lester B. Pearson Intl (CYYZ), ON. While in cruise approximately 40 NM northeast of Kenora (CYQK), ON, the first officer became ill. A deadheading WestJet captain, who was on board the aircraft as a passenger, assumed the duties of the incapacitated first officer. After speaking with the operators ground based medical support, the flight diverted to Winnipeg/James Armstrong Richardson Intl (CYWG), MB where an uneventful landing was conducted. The first officer was transferred to a local hospital for assessment.
