A Jazz Bombardier CL-600-2B19 (JZA8895) from Toronto/Lester B. Pearson, ON (CYYZ) to Indianapolis, IN (KIND) reported a bird strike during its take-off roll while departing from Runway 24L. An inspection vehicle found an American Kestrel, not intact. A Jazz Embraer ERJ 170-200 LR (JZA8411) from Gander, NL (CYQX) to Toronto/Lester B. Pearson, ON (CYYZ) was instructed to initiate a missed approach while the clean up took place, and a few departures were delayed.

Incident at TORONTO / OSHAWA EXECUTIVE AIRPORT ON (CYOO) (ATM - weather observation systems)

An Air Nunavut Dassault Mystere Falcon 20-F5 (C-GZOX/BFF20) from Gander, NL (CYQX) to Ottawa/MacDonald-Cartier, ON (CYOW) initiated a missed approach for Runway 12 due to poor visibility and low ceiling. Conditions reported at the time by the aerodrome routine meteorological report (METAR) were OVC004 with 1.5 statute mile (SM) visibility, but the tower observed that visibility was no more than 1/2 SM to the northwest and along the approach. Communications transfer was initiated for the en route sector, and the aircraft was rerouted to an alternate airport.

The aircraft executed a missed approach and landed safely 5 minutes later when maintenance crew reported runway clear of wildlife.

A Provincial Airlines de Havilland DHC-8-106 (C-GPAU/PVL1953) from Halifax/Stanfield, NS (CYHZ) to Deer Lake, NL (CYDF) entered the mandatory frequency (MF) and the left downwind for Runway 25 without receiving an advisory. PVL1953 had cancelled its IFR clearance with Gander, NL (CYQX), but did not initiate first contact with the Flight Service Station (FSS) until it was in the left downwind for Runway 25. At the time, there was Boeing 737 traffic in the zone, on final for Runway 25, when PVL1953 made their first call.

A Flightworks Inc. Gulfstream GIV-X (FWK821) from Gander, NL (CYQX) to Cobb County, GA (KRYY) was cleared for take-off. About 10 seconds later, the pilot reported that they were aborting take-off due to issues with the number 2 generator. The aircraft taxied back without incident. Then, at 2001Z, the aircraft called for an engine start, followed by a taxi and departure shortly after. Took off without incident.

Incident at 25NM N Birchy Bay access Road by Big Pond

The Gander, NL (CYQX) tower noticed they hadnt heard or seen a radar tag from an Exploits Valley Air Services Ltd. Cessna 152 (C-FPXA) from Gander, NL (CYQX) to Gander, NL (CYQX), which had departed from CYQX at 1958Z. C-FPXA was training in the VFR training area north of the CYQX control zone. When a company aircraft, an Exploits Valley Air Services Ltd. Cessna 152 (C-FPZC), landed, the tower asked C-FPZC to look into it. The certified flight instructor (CFI) from the flight school subsequently called and advised the tower that C-FPXA made a forced landing outside the zone on the Birchy Bay access road, by Big Pond. The cause was unknown and no injuries were reported.

Incident at HALIFAX / STANFIELD INTL NS (CYHZ)

A Jazz Bombardier DHC-8-402 (C-GVJZ/JZA8051) from Gander, NL (CYQX) to Halifax/Stanfield, NS (CYHZ) conducted a missed approach for Runway 32 at 2000Z due to an unsafe landing gear indication. Declared "PAN PAN" with the Halifax (HZ) terminal control unit (TCU). The aircraft rescue and fire fighting (ARFF) unit was advised. The aircraft landed safely at 2017Z with no impact.
UPDATE from Airworthiness: A Civil Aviation Safety Inspector (CASI) looked into this occurrence. On approach, the flight crew selected the gear "down" and received a nose door amber indication. During the missed approach, the "Gear INOP" caution light illuminated. The flight crew performed an alternate extension. The aircraft landed without incident with the alternate indication not indicating that the nose gear was down and locked (the main indication was indicating that all gear was down and locked). Maintenance performed troubleshooting and replaced a defective wiring harness, cleared faults, performed gear swings, and returned the aircraft to service. Service Difficulty Report no. 20220602001 was submitted.
UPDATE TSB Report #A22A0024: C-GVJZ, a de Havilland DHC-8-402 aircraft operated by Jazz Aviation LP, was conducting flight JZA51 from Gander Intl (CYQX), NL, to Halifax/Stanfield Intl (CYHZ), NS. On approach to CYHZ, the crew received an amber nose door caution light. Although all 3 landing gear safe lights were illuminated on the landing gear selector panel, an inspection of the landing gear downlock verification lights at the alternate extension panel revealed no nose gear down light illuminated. The flight crew then received a "landing gear inoperative" caution, elected to carry out a missed approach and declare a PAN PAN with the CYHZ ATS. The crew carried out an alternate landing gear extension as per checklist, and returned to land at CYHZ without further incident. Company maintenance replaced a faulty nose landing gear indication wiring harness.
