A WestJet Encore Ltd. de Havilland DHC-8-402 (C-GPWE/WEN3441) from Greater Moncton/Romeo Leblanc Intl, NB (CYQM) to Toronto/Lester B. Pearson Intl, ON (CYYZ) declared PAN PAN with Boston Centre due to a loss of the hydraulic system. The aircraft then requested to be redirected to Montreal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau, QC (CYUL) and requested the services of Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF). The aircraft landed on Runway 06R at 1153Z without incident. Runway 06R was closed from 1153Z to 1210Z. Impact: a few departures were delayed.
UPDATE: TSB Report #A20Q0004: C-GPWE, a WestJet Encore de Havilland, Dash-8 Q400 (WEN3441), was on an instrument flight rules (IFR) flight from Moncton/Greater Moncton Intl., NB (CYQM) to Toronto/Lester B. Pearson, ON (CYYZ) with 66 passengers and 4 crew members on board. While the aircraft was in cruising flight approximately 175 nautical miles east of Montreal Pierre Elliott Trudeau, QC (CYUL), a loss of hydraulic fluid in system number 1 occurred. The crew diverted to CYUL and declared an emergency, and Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) services were deployed. The aircraft landed on Runway 06R without incident. There were no injuries or damage to the aircraft.

Incident at FREDERICTON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

TSB Report #A20A0007: C-GBJZ, a de Havilland Dash 8-400 aircraft operated by Jazz Aviation LP, was conducting flight JZA8902 from Montreal Trudeau airport (CYUL), QC, to the Greater Moncton Romeo Leblanc airport (CYQM), NB. While in cruise at FL250 over Fredericton New Brunswick, the aircraft encountered severe turbulence. The autopilot disengaged, the aircraft banked left to about 40 degrees and lost approximately 1000 feet before the crew could regain control. The turbulence lasted for approximately 45 seconds before abating. The 77 passengers and 4 crew were wearing seatbelts and no one was injured. The aircraft landed safely at CYQM. Maintenance completed a severe turbulence inspection and the aircraft was released to service.

Accident at BATHURST NB (CZBF) (Dangerous goods/hazardous materials, Aerodrome, runway or taxiway shutdown)

A Moncton Flight College Piper PA-44-180 (C-FTUU) from Greater Moncton/Romeo Leblanc, NB (CYQM) to Bathurst, NB (CZBF) had an accident upon landing in CZBF.
UPDATE TSB Report #A20A0003: C-FTUU, a Piper 44-180 aircraft operated by Canlink Aviation Ltd (Moncton Flight College) was conducting a training flight from Moncton Airport (CYQM), NB to Bathurst Airport (CZBF), NB and returning to CYQM with one instructor and 2 students onboard. Upon completing a second landing (touch and go) at CZBF, the aircraft drifted left on the landing roll. The student pilot brought the aircraft back to the centerline. As the aircraft continued slowing, it started drifting left again and the instructor took control. The propeller began striking the runway at which point the instructor shutdown the engines and the aircraft came to a stop on the runway. The pilots evacuated. There were no injuries. The aircraft had experienced a left main gear collapse caused by a failure of the piston tube. This damaged the left prop, left engine and left wing. There was a large spill of hydraulic fluid noted at the point of touchdown. The runway was NOTAMed closed until the aircraft could be removed. Piper has provided instructions on an inspection process using Eddy Current to check for corrosion or cracking through the bolt hole that is used to hold the lower plug of the piston assembly. Piper recommends this testing be started at 6500 hours time in service and every 700 hrs thereafter. There is believed to have been a pre-existing fatigue crack on this aircraft which had 7900 hours.
