Incident at Kelowna

A Carson Air Beech B300 (C-GRXX/CRN811) from Vancouver, BC (CYVR) to Kelowna, BC (CYLW) reported a possible bird strike upon landing. No operational impact.

Incident at VANCOUVER / BOUNDARY BAY BC (CZBB) (Aerodrome, runway or taxiway shutdown)

After landing and before exiting Runway 25, a Pacific Flying Club Cessna 172R (C-FPAK) from Vancouver/Boundary Bay, BC (CZBB) to Vancouver/Boundary Bay, BC (CZBB) veered off and stopped in the grass area along Runway 25. There were no injuries, and Runway 25 was closed until the aircraft was removed.

Incident at ÎLES-DE-LA-MADELEINE QC (CYGR) (ATM - operations)

At the request of a Government of Quebec Canadair CL600-2B16 (C-GURG/QUE10) on a MEDEVAC flight from Quebec/Jean Lesage, QC (CYQB) to Îles-de-la-Madeleine, QC (CYGR), the hours of operation for CYGR were extended from 0345Z to 0550Z.

Incident at YORKTON MUNI SK (CYQV)

The pilot of a Good Spirit Air Service Ayres S2R-T34 (C-FSPZ) was conducting circuits at Yorkton, SK (CYQV) when they reported a Cessna overhead the field. The flight service station (FSS) had no contact with the unknown Cessna. The aircraft joined the circuit and landed. The pilot of a Crowsnest Properties and Developments Ltd. Cessna 172M (C-GGTB) on a flight to Yorkton, SK (CYQV) contacted the FSS to advise that their radio had failed.

Incident at NORMAN WELLS NT (CYVQ)

A North-Wright Airways Ltd. Beech 1900D (C-FTKF/NWL141) from Norman Wells, NT (CYVQ) to Fort Good Hope, NT (CYGH) rejected its take-off at 1458Z and 1526Z due to an aircraft issue. Aircraft returned to the apron. No impact to operations.

While on final approach, a Bearskin Airlines Fairchild SA227-DC (C-GJVO/BLS318) from Winnipeg/James Armstrong Richardson, MB (CYWG) to Red Lake, ON (CYRL) had a landing gear indication. On a fly-over, a staff vehicle advised that the gear appeared to be down. The aircraft landed safely.

An Air Canada Boeing 787-8 (ACA106) from Vancouver Intl, BC (CYVR) to Toronto/Lester B. Pearson Intl, ON (CYYZ) conducted an overshoot of Runway 24R at 1921Z. ACA106 landed on Runway 24R at 1933Z.

A Smiths Falls Flying Club Inc. Cessna 172M (C-GPTW) from Smiths Falls-Montague (Russ Beach), ON (CYSH) to London, ON (CYXU) entered the Toronto/Lester B. Pearson, ON (CYYZ) terminal Class C airspace without a clearance. Communication was eventually established with the area control centre (ACC). C-GPTW subsequently entered the Toronto/Billy Bishop, ON (CYTZ) control zone without a clearance. Communication was not established until closer to the CN Tower. No operational impact.

A downed aircraft was reported by a British Columbia Helicopters Ltd. Guimbal Cabri G2 (C-GUET). The aircraft had two occupants. The aircraft was later identified as a privately registered Cessna 140 from Kelowna, BC (CYLW) to Pitt Meadows, BC (CYPK).

An Airsprint Inc. Cessna 525A (C-FASW/ASP503) from Kenora, ON (CYQK) to Toronto/Oshawa, ON (CYOO) reported a bird strike upon landing on Runway 30. The runway was inspected, and the bird was retrieved. No operational impact.

Incident at PENTICTON BC (CYYF)

At 0316Z, while on the climb out from Runway 34, a North Fork Oilfield Services Piper PA-28-140 (C-GEGB) from Penticton, BC (CYYF) to Penticton, BC (CYYF) reported pitot tube blockage and advised returning to land. C-GEGB landed safely at 0321Z. No impact to operations.

An American, corporately registered Cirrus SR22 (N787ZE) from High Prairie, AB (CZHP) to Grande Prairie, AB (CYQU) reported hearing an Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) signal for approximately 10 seconds, at 5500ft. A Kisik Aerial Survey Inc. Piper PA-31-350 (C-GXHK) from Golden, BC (CYGE) to Golden, BC (CYGE), on a photo flight, was observed entering without a clearance and not being on the frequency. Air traffic control (ATC) issued an IFR clearance to C-GXHK once contact with C-GXHK was established. No impact to the operation.

An Alpine Helicopters Inc. Bell 407 (C-FALC) from Calgary, AB (CYYC) to Edmonton/Villeneuve, AB (CZVL) entered the Red Deer, AB (CYQF) control zone without contacting the flight service station (FSS), then conflicted with an inbound Airwave Electronics Ltd. Cessna 172M (C-GSSM) on a flight to Red Deer, AB (CYQF).

A Fireweed Helicopters Ltd. Bell 206B (C-FFHW) from Regina, SK (CYQR) to Calgary/Springbank, AB (CYBW) was instructed to line up on Runway 26, but lined up on Runway 31 at Taxiway Kilo. C-FFHW corrected its runway and departed from Runway 26. No impact to operations.

Incident at NORTH BATTLEFORD (CAMERON McINTOSH) SK (CYQW) (Aerodrome, runway or taxiway shutdown)

A 1976624 Alberta Inc. Cessna 172RG (C-GVVR) was on a VFR flight plan from Edmonton, AB (CYEG) to North Battleford (Cameron McIntosh), SK (CYQW). C-GVVR landed at a location where all runways were closed via NOTAM.

Incident at STONY RAPIDS SK (CYSF)

At 2039Z, a secondary surveillance radar (SSR) target was observed entering the Stony Rapids, SK (CYSF) mandatory frequency (MF) area from the Northwest (NW) at 033 above sea level (ASL) (unverified) without establishing radio communication with the flight service station (FSS). The FSS made a “blind call” on the MF for the aircraft to identify itself and the pilot responded as a privately registered Cessna A185E “at three point five” en route to La Ronge (Barber Field), SK (CYVC).

Incident at LANGLEY REGIONAL BC (CYNJ)

A Pacific Flying Club Cessna 172P (C-GOSB) from Vancouver/Boundary Bay, BC (CZBB) to Vancouver/Boundary Bay, BC (CZBB) was overflying the Langley, BC (CYNJ) control zone. The aircraft was passed traffic when it was approximately 1 mile southwest of CYNJ. C-GOSB had traffic in sight, then proceeded to descend into the control zone without clearance as they proceeded southwest, and were not reachable on the radio. No impact on operations.
